Timothy D. Thompson
Founder, Black Dollarz Farm to Table
For Timothy Thompson, farming is not simply an industry—it is part of his family story.
His father was a Mississippi farmer who later became a grocery store owner and construction company owner, demonstrating what could happen when agriculture, ownership, entrepreneurship and hard work came together. His mother was a farmer’s daughter, and even as life changed, she made sure the family remained connected to the farm.
Those experiences never left him.
“I can still remember coming up the road to the farm. Before I reached the barn, the smell would greet me. Even today, that memory takes me right back there.”
That connection to the land now helps inspire Black Dollarz Farm to Table.
Timothy believes the challenges facing farmers and families are connected. Farmers need sustainable markets for what they produce. Families need better ways to find fresh, quality food. Local businesses need opportunities to participate in transportation, processing, distribution, retail and other parts of the food economy.
Black Dollarz Farm to Table is being built to help connect those pieces.
Timothy brings more than his family’s agricultural roots to that mission. His professional career has centered on technology delivery, program and project management, operational readiness, quality, governance, process improvement, and coordinating complex organizations and cross-functional teams. His experience includes building systems that improve visibility, identify risks and dependencies, standardize workflows, measure performance, and move complex initiatives from strategy into execution.
He now wants to apply those capabilities to a different kind of system: the journey from the farm to the family table.
The vision is a technology-enabled network connecting farmers and growers, families, food hubs, processors, delivery companies, restaurants, retailers, schools, institutions and community organizations. The goal isn’t simply to create another online marketplace.
It is to help build infrastructure through which farmers can reach more customers, families can discover where their food comes from, local businesses can participate in moving that food, and more economic activity can remain connected to the communities producing and consuming it.
For Timothy, this work represents both innovation and a return to something familiar. The farm never really left him.
Today, the road back to that barn looks different. It runs through technology, logistics, entrepreneurship, community and a new generation of farmers and families. But the destination remains remarkably familiar: good food, productive land, strong families, successful businesses and communities capable of building something for the generations that follow.
